Last week our customer project manager Åsa chaired the PhUSE annual conference in Barcelona.
PhUSE is an independent, not-for-profit organisation run by volunteers. Since its inception, PhUSE has expanded from its roots as a conference for European Statistical Programmers, to a global platform for the discussion of topics encompassing the work of Data Managers, Biostatisticians, Statistical Programmers and eClinical IT professionals in pharmaceutical industry. The theme of the 2016 Conference was on how to achieve a “fast track to approval” within the pharmaceutical industry. Key things discussed were how can we as an industry standardise, automatise, design trials and utilise data more effectively to reduce the time to approval. Very relevant to the work we at Trialbee are doing in accelerating clinical trials.
Each day of the conference started with an inspirational talk by a keynote speaker. This year there was a fantastic mix of scientific topics presented by Alok Jah, Aseem Malhotra and Jack Lewis. Alok Jah (journalist and broadcaster) spoke about using storytelling as a tool for presenting complicated topics. Dr Aseem Malhotra spoke about overuse of medicines and the importance of informing patients about alternative options to standard treatment with medicines. Finally Dr Jack Lewis gave a very inspirational talk about our brains and how we can train them to make better decisions. Both doctors touched upon the importance of a healthy diet without sugar.
After 2 years of planning the conference was a great success with 600 data scientists working in pharma attending and some great conversations and connections made! The success of the Annual Conference was the result of collaboration and hard work. Trialbee are proud to support the organization and honored to have Åsa chairing this amazing event.
